We’re looking forward to welcoming you all to Holly Lodge Farm at the weekend for our first Run Your Paws Off Christmas Special. We’re also delighted that the event has sold out (though we do deliberately keep things small and friendly!). Thanks for supporting our event, we hope it will be great muddy fun and the information below should give you all the information that you need. If you have any further questions, please do not hestiate to drop us a line on firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com .
Directions: The event is based at Holly Lodge Farm, Upton, Huntingdon, PE28 5XZ. If you opt for putting the postcode into your device once you are very close to the venue, there will be some sign posts on the road to direct you to the appropriate place to park as this is not quite the postcode location. You could also use the what3words code of: parsnip.perused.tigers which will take you to the direct turn off the road onto the farm land. You will then be on a track which leads directly to our parking area.
Parking: is immediately next to registration and the start of the race. Most of our parking is on a hard standing area although we will need to park you closely together. Please do be patient with the marshals etc. whilst we try to get you parked as safely as possible. If you are able to lift share at all, that would certainly help us.
Registration: Please leave your dogs in the car whilst you register. Registration will open at 9am and close at 9:45am. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer entries on the day for this event. You are able to change the course that you signed up though – so on the day swaps between the 5 and 10k courses are allowed.
Race Briefing: Again, please leave dogs in cars for the race breifing – or we simply will not be able to be heard. This will happen at 9:45 and last for 5 minutes max, giving you time to go and get dogs harnessed and ready afterwards.
The course: is all off-road and will all be marked with small flags that you will keep on your right. It is all cross-country rather than trail, so the ground is lumpy and bumpy in places. There is one section very near the start that will be very muddy and needs to be crossed, it lasts for about 100m. Trail shoes are definitely recommended to help you to stay on your feet! The remainder of the course is grassland. It is one 5k loop, which the 10k competitors will complete twice. 10K runners will be given a 5K split time too and to enable that to happen need to return to the turn around point, located at the start, at the end of their first lap.
The Start: We operate an individual start; runners simply ‘dib and go’. We will set the 10K runners off first. If you know that your dog can be slightly nervous, please feel free to wait and start near the back. The event is chip timed, so it will not affect your placing at all. The 5k runners will be set off approximately 5 minutes after the 10k runners have all left.
Marshals: As the course is fully marked there will be minimal marshals on the route. We will have a tail runner however who will be our back marker. If any family or friends are travelling up with you on Sunday and would be happy to marshal, we’d love to hear from them!
Seasonal Fancy Dress: is of course encouraged for both yourselves and your four legged friends!
Weather Forecast: At the moment the forecast for Sunday is looking very good; only a 10% chance of rain, light winds and about 9ºC.
Water: There will be water available at the start and finish area for dogs as well as humans, but water will notbe provided whilst out on the course. We are aiming to keep our environmental footprint as low as possible for these events so no disposable cups will be provided. Please do bring your own resuable one instead and if you wish to have water with you on the course, please carry it. The course will also have a plentiful supply of muddy puddles for dogs (which is always my dogs’ favourite!).
Vetinary cover: Cromwell Vets operate a 24/7 emergency vets service. They are aware of our event on Sunday and in the unfortunate event that they are needed can be contacted on 01480 52222, however, owners will need to take their dog to the practice (based in Huntingdon) and will be liable for all fees incurred.
Facilities: These are limited, as we are in a relatively remote location, but there will be a portaloo available.
Compulsary kit: Please do ensure that you have at least 3 poo bags on you at the start of the race; this will be checked at registration. This is the only compulsary kit that’s required.
Kit for dogs: We recommend a waist harness, bungee lead and harness on your dog, but people can run with a normal collar and flat lead. Dogs will not be permitted to run using extenable leads or choke leads of any description. We do have Toria Seaton with us on Sunday from K9 Trail time. She will have a pop up shop with her (and does accept card payments) so if anyone is looking for some new kit, she’ll be able to offer some expert advice. She is also very happy to offer a free checking service of any current kit that you are using and ensure it fits your dog correctly etc.
Refreshments: homemade seasonal goodies will be available after the race. We will also have Hannah’s Toast Box on site which will have hot drinks and toast available to purchase. She is more than happy to serve drinks in your own reusable cups too!
Photography: We will have a photographer out on the course and all photos will be up-loaded to our facebook feed where they will be available for a free download. These may take up to a week to be posted so do please be patient with us.
Prizes: Four prizes will be awarded. These will go to the fastest male and female in the 10k and the fastest male and female in the 5k. We hope to be able to award prizes around 11:30am.
Medals: Once you have completed the run, please return to the registration area where you will be able to exchange your timing chip for your wooden medal. These are produced by a small company based in Scotland who have a strong sustainable and social enterprise scheme – we love supporting them. #theworkshopaberfeldy
